What Time Zone Are We In?

Last year, when the Senior students went to Edison Community College for a wireless lab with Dave Lambert, we had what I described as a "wireless lab disaster". The wireless workgroup was not successful then because not all the work stations had the same Xp operating system service packs. This year, we solved that problem by bringing along our Win Xp SP3 discs and letting Mr. Lambert know ahead of time what we were installing.

The proof of whether the workgroup was established with a wireless connection was whether each work station could recognize the printer that was added to the network. It went like this: workgroup one, check; workgroup two, check; workgroup three, "where is the printer?". After a review of all the connection options, Jessica discovered that the time zone was incorrectly set for Central rather than the Eastern time zone that we live in.

That simple error in setting up the work station on the wireless network was enough to cause a failure. It was simply fixed, however. A point and click on the correct time zone enabled the printer to be discovered. The look of glee that Jessica is showing comes after about 15 minutes of troubleshooting. Many problems are extremely difficult until the simple solution is found.
